I have started on a new story! I had one of the most screwed up dreams I have had in a long time last night so I have decided to write a full length story based on my dream. It was basically a mix of alice in wonderland, the wizard of oz and chronicles of narnia. I really don't care if something like this as been done before because I want to do my own version. mind you the alice that its closet to is the video game where it's in a demented world. Since I won't be around the next few days don't expect anything, but I have began the story lay out. I think I have enough to two novels (each a 100+ pages). I also may have the aid of Jeff while writing this. Hopefully we'll be able to work something out where we can both start in on this. The only problem will be our different writing styles. I think what we will end up doing is writing our chapters, then going over each one, changing sentence structure etc etc. If things turn out to be too difficult I may just continue on my own. Hope to be able to post soon!

So I just finished watching this. I rather enjoyed it, despite the fact that it broke of from the original poem. I really didn't like the Witch character. I found her annoying and a shady actress. As the the Celt, he amused me. Both these characters weren't in the poem mind you. Overall I thought it was pretty good. Annoyed that they played down the greatness of Beowulf. When I recall reading the poem I think of Beowulf as a great warrior, willing to please his Gods and ride to Valhalla, but they made him seem much more Human in the movie.

I also don't recall anything about Grendel's father. I'm pretty sure they added that character to make Grendel seem more human also by giving him a reason to attack the village instead of making him seem like a monster. Pity, since I would have liked to have seen the mighty good battle the mighty evil without the blurring of the lines.

The site itself is much prettier than LJ and it has some nice features built into the site. Such as last.fm, youtube and delicious even though I don't use it I would always start again if I will be able to post it.

Chestico days is rolling in soon, which will result in me traveling up Friday evening. Hopefully everything goes well.

Started using Litestep (www.litestep.net) again. I got bored with windows and wanted to change things up a little so I grabbed a nice theme and installed it.

www.gameknot.com Go sign up, and challenge me, Ralum. Its online chess that has days for moves before your turn is up, making it ideal for those that can't always site on their pc for an extended period of time.

Sorry I don't have any real news to post or anything insightful but I try not to think when I am home alone because then I realize that time is passings and how much time I am wasting.

Oh well :P If I get a invite to that beta site I will post a couple of test blogs, I will then slowly migrate over, while trying to pull as many people with me as possible :P
Please check out part one of this guide here ( http://iviz.livejournal.com/10055.html )

Also if you don't want to use torrents and use a more traditional p2p network check here ( http://iviz.livejournal.com/11041.html ) for my reviews on several p2p clients.

PART 2

Queuing

Max amount of active torrents – This number represents how many torrents you have running at once, be it uploading or downloading files.
(8)
Max number of active downloads – I have this number between 1 and 4. If I want something quick, I set it to one. If I know that a torrent won’t be pulled down by running other torrents or I don’t need it right away, I will set it up to 4, but not higher.
(1-4)

Ratio <= - This means a torrent my default will upload whatever % you enter in there. So if you say 100% it will upload until it has reached that and then stop.
(150%)

Or seeding time – This means it will seed for a set amount of time instead of a percentage.
(Ignore)

Seeding tasks have higher priority than downloading task – This will give your uploads a higher priority (more of your connection) if checked.
(Unchecked)

Limit upload rate to – If you have set your ratio to 100%, and your upload meets that goal, this setting will cap the uploads speed. 0 = stopped
(0)

Scheduler

I don’t use this since I want my torrents running full all the time, but if you want to say have your torrents running at a limit speed during the day, you can do so with the scheduler. Since this won’t affect anything I going to skip it.

Other

Store .torrent files in – This is where your personal preference comes into play. But what this does is save all your current torrent files to one folder. I suggest this. Makes organization easier and cleaner. Plus you won’t need to download torrent files afterwards. If you have this set up, you can just open a file from the download prompt and it will save the file to this folder.
(Torrents\Incomplete Torrents\Uncompleted Torrent Files)

Move .torrent files for finished jobs – Same idea as the other one, but when a torrent is finished it will move the .torrent file to another location. I find this useful for future seeding.
(Torrents\Completed Torrents\Completed Torrent Files)

Auto-load torrents – This is open all the torrent files in a certain directory. Can be useful if you want to wait till the programs next set to automatically load some files.
(not used)

Bosskey – Will hide uTorrent so it’s not seen in the system tray.
(None)

Allow uTorrent to send anonymous version number… - This will just let you know when a newer version is available for download.
(Checked)
Advanced

Instead of me explaining everyone of these options, the uTorrent site ( www.utorrent.com ) does a good job of it. Check here (http://utorrent.com/faq.php#What_do_all_those_settings_in_Advanced_do.3F ) for the details. I will instead explain which one to edit.

The only setting here that you need to edit will be the net.max_halfopen setting. What this will allow is more connects to other. Windows by default blocks a number of simultaneous connections so you will first need to download a patch for that file.

To do this, check out here ( http://www.lvllord.de/ ) for the patch. Install it, reboot and then play with your half open settings. I personally have mine set to 50, but depending on your pipe size it may be better to set around 20-30. If you have a smaller or clogged pipe, you don’t want a high number of connections or it will slow your connection even more.

Please note you will need to run that patch everyone windows updates its self to ensure that it wasn’t repatched!

Also, go here (http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php ), download and run. This may help speed up your connection. It may not.

Disk Cache

Override automatic cache size… - This function (heard by rumor) doesn’t really help but you can set it if you like. It will just cache files before writing them to a hard drive to save continuous writes. If you have a low amount of ram, do not use this feature!
(64mb)

Reduce memory usage when… - uTorrent reserves an amount of space in your ram for files. If the cache isn’t being used fully, this will reduce it.
(Checked)

Enable caching of disk writes – Will just cache your writes.
(Checked)

Write out untouched blocks every 2 minutes – If a block of a file is downloaded and then it moves onto another block without completing the first block it will write it out in 2 minutes. If your pc is prone to crashing this is useful.
(Unchecked)

Write out finished pieces immediately – Pretty self explanatory. If your pc is prone to crashing check it, if not your don’t need to.
(Unchecked)

Enabling caching of disk reads – If you are uploading it will being to cache files that will be uploaded to save your disk reads.
(Checked)

Turn off read caching if upload speed is slow – If you are uploading at a slow write, it will turn of the read cache to save ram.
(Checked)
Remove old blocks from cache – Will remove blocks that haven’t been touched from cache. Will provide more ram.
(Checked)

Increase automatic cache size when cache thrashing – If your hard drive is unable to keep up with your cache write, this will increase the cache size to save files.
(Checked)

User Interface I won’t explain since it doesn’t affect anything relating to how the program works.

Notes:
-Just a note! Ensure that uTorrent has been added to your firewall! If it hasn’t you firewall may be trying to block uTorrent, in which case you will get crappy speeds.
-Green ball = Good
-Yellow triangle = Not so good
-Red ball = Your screwed up somewhere and uTorrent can’t connect.

I hope this tutorial/guide helped you understand uTorrent and allowed for you to increase your upload/download speeds!

Alice in Wonderland

I just completed Alice in Wonderland. What a wonderful tale. I highly suggest anyone that loves the simplicity of childhood and the rampant imagine of those few lucky enough among us to maintain throughout the years to pick up this book and give it a read. I will start the next one, Through the looking glass or whatever it is called tomorrow. I hope it is as good as the first.

Also found a nice private anime tracker. Good speeds and ok selection. You have to remember it's only from one subbing group ( http://www.anime-supreme.com/ ) I signed up. I have found several series that look promising and will report back later when I do a series review. I don't plan to include plot or anything of the sort in my reviews. I will simple give each a rating, its genre and a basic idea of the series.

I will be home for:
Chestico days, and my Uncles wedding on the 11th. I will see people then.

Looking for somewhere to host my game. I would like a personal server since it gives me more freedom. If I can't find one by the time I started school, I will beg the school to supply me with 20mb's of server space and a DB to play with. If I can convince them it's a school project maybe I'll get it. I have started coding the main page. I need to figure out how I'm going to work out levels. But I will likely start in on the inventory page tomorrow since I don't think it will prove too difficult. The gang and MC pages are going to be hard as hell. I dread the idea of having to code this all myself.

Btw, I still love uTorrent. I am eager to see the next version. I have been lurking their forums and some of the suggestions are really slick and some of the improvements that can be made will really increase the programs speed/functionality.

Also waiting for an update for Firefox 2. Haven't seen anything recently. Hope they come out with an official version soon. *Waiting for Firefox Linux and Google browser* lol. Now wouldn't that be cool eh?

Speaking of Google, someone post in my good damn thingy!!! The groups thing. DO IT!

Oh slick. I can add words to the Firefox dictionary so I don't have that damn line under Firefox, Google or uTorrent anymore.

AMD slashed prices on all processors! 50%+!! Intel has also cut prices of older models with the release of their new core (which is supposed to be kick ass). These cuts from Intel are said to be up to 60% on selected cores! You may see me, an AMD fan, switch to Intel if these new chips are all propped up to be.

Can't wait for school to start again. Only dreading it for one reason. Katelyn moves back to Wolfville :( I's be sad about that, but so happy to be starting school again.

I will have to try to visit her on a bi-weekly basis. Hopefully I can manage that.

*rant rant rant*

Sleepy kicking in. I's be out for the night. Farewell all.

Well I lied. I said I would post last night but I didn't. Too tired so I went to sleep. Anywho, I was talking about groups and people. I don't understand why some people must try to prove their intelligence to other. Or try to prove that they are more intelligent than others. From what I have observed is that many people have the problem of wanting to be recognized for something. It doesn't matter what it is. They just need someone to realize they exist and many do this by flaunting, being a prick, or whining.

See, applying this to myself at the moment, I am attempting to gain acknowledgment for my insight/observations. I could say that I'm not, but that would be a lie since why else would I post this to my livejournal? The whole reason of a blog is to put a piece of yourself on the net for possible millions to see, only proving my point. Some blogs are for work, information, personal but it all leads back to wanting to be acknowledged.

But this isn't really the part that confuses me. The part that I want to no is why some must do this by making those around them feel inferior. Why does this happen, and not only happen but happens often. I've done it. Everyone I know has done it, but why? I try to catch myself from doing it. I really don't like doing it, but I every once in a while get caught in my pride and flaunt my knowledge. There is a difference though between flaunting and sharing but often they end some going hand in hand.

Moving on (will wait till someone tries to counter/agree with that).

Haven't had a chance to work on my Cyberpunk RPG yet. I've been tired/sleeping. And I am going to Katelyns this afternoon, so I will be unable to get any work done to it today. But I have been thinking about starting the PHP for the home page. I have several layouts planned in my head and I need to get back on track so I think the best way is to start programming (in reality scripting but programming is more understandable by the general populace). I will hopefully finish coding up the main page by the weekend. I will in reality code the log in, auth page and the home page since they all are tied closely together.

Happy belated birthday OJ. I meant to wish ya a good one the other day but forgot.

This is all for now. I will be back hopefully in the next couple of days with some code.
